Time to spill the beans, and come clean. This weekend I start my new gig! I’ll be playing with the one and only Candye Kane!
Candye is well known to blues fans all over the world, and her band, featuring Laura Chavez on guitar and Evan Caleb on drums can flat out tear it up. I’m thrilled with this opportunity, and look forward to adding what I can to an already fantastic live show. The prospects of going on the road with these people, and playing this music, sounds like more fun than anyone sho…

I’m starting a new jam in Palo Alto, at the newly completed Pizza My Heart plaza at University and Emerson. The outdoor venue will make it completely accessible to all ages. It's surrounded by restaurants, pizza, ice cream, several nice bars and the Stanford movie theater. In the heart of downtown, the new plaza is decorated with brick pathways, ultra-modern bike racks, and lots of tables and chairs. It has upgraded its electrical facility and added threes, lighting and a large attractive founta…

It was a cold and rainy Sunday night in downtown Fairfax. The streets were a tad on the desolate side as I pulled up to 19th Broadway, a place I have spent many nights, on or off the rather spacious stage. Either playing with One More Mile or seeing Little Charlie, Mick Taylor, or Joe Louis Walker, every night at 19th Broadway has had its shares of ups and downs, with varying degrees of success. On this night, however, my singular goal was to hold down the low end for The Antar Blue Band.

Once again, I’m here to tell you about a special gig. Once again, it’s happening at Armando’s in Martinez. The two seem to go hand in hand! Saturday night, January 16th, 8 to 11PM, come see The Jeff Magidson Blues Band!
Guitarist Jeff Magidson is no stranger to Armando’s. His band Duo Gadjo has played too many a packed house, and his work with The Hot Club of San Francisco and his role as Music Director at Red House keeps his schedule full. Jeff ‘honors his roots’ with an evening of blues, rang…

I'll be filling in for Jeff W. at this Saturday's (1/9) Red House Blues Jam from 2 to 4.
Don't think you can take advantage of me just because I'm a substitute! This ain't my first Rodeo, Hombre!
I think I've talked Brian Bartle into coming in a doing a little drumming. So I don't have to!

Let's get back to the business of blues, shall we? My Blues Year Resolution is to go to more live blues where I am not on the bill. I always finding myself preaching "go out to see live blues...support the local blues scene...yada yada yada..." but more and more when I have a weekend free of gig responsibilities, I find myself on the couch. I don't think its necessary to be a insane zealot about these things (although more power to ya), but stopping by a local club, have a brew, say hi to the ba…

Interview with Mick Martin
Introduction
MICK MARTIN
Mick Martin has played blues harmonica professionally since 1968 and, since 1983, led "Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers." On March 31, 1994, Mick did something highly unusual for a harmonica player: he performed at Carnegie Hall for the nationally-broadcast "Blues in Jazz" concert with mentor Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Witherspoon, Gr…

Hi all,
Just wanted to let those of you that know me that my band, T-Wrex and the Primitive Rhythm, is playing at Maggie McGarry's in San Francisco this Sunday night, from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. I did post this in the events, but wanted to direct special attention to it, because this is my first regular North Beach gig opportunity and having as many people there would help out. No cover, and cheap drinks. Hope to see some of my friends there!

We auditioned a guitar player last night Oct 14th. It was one of the most fun auditions I have ever been a part of. The band sounds great and we had it all together even though some of the tunes were unknown to the man. Joel is going to be a lot of fun, a pleasure and an honour to work with just like it is with Mike, the drummer. I feel we can make an impact in this county in the Blues scene. My idea is to be a host band at a Blues jam. I think we might be able to take it a little further.

How many bands have I played with this year? An unofficial count comes out to 23. Twenty-Three different bands just this calendar year! A lot were one-offs, sub gigs that I did one or two shows. Some were put together for a specific show. A couple were bands I was, or am, a ‘member’ of, but actually joining a band is a rarer thing for me.
Twenty three. It’s a good number. Twenty Four, on the other hand, is a great number. Willie Mays wore 24. Twenty Four has a lot of symmetry to it. Two dozen.…
